What is the Senior Project?

The Senior Project is year-long academic inquiry based on a student’s own interests.  It is a graduation requirement at Saint Mary’s College High School.

Encouraged to pursue a passion, and driven by an Essential Question that each has crafted for themselves, seniors explore, research, and become expert in an area they’re personally interested in.  For example, some are interested in health-related issues ranging from learning differences to diseases to organ donation; other seniors intend to work with children or the elderly; others wish to develop their artistic talents; still others will grapple with issues of social justice; and yet others will engage in internships in various professional fields.

During the year, seniors work individually, with a Teacher-Advisor, and also in teams to make connections both inside and outside the classroom, document their experience, and, ultimately, formulate an answer to the Essential Question they assign themselves.  Finally, in the spring, seniors formally present their reflections and conclusions to the school community.
