Looking for Parent Donations to the Silent Auction

The Crab Feed will be here before we know it. Please consider making a donation to the auction before you head into the Winter Break. We are still looking for tickets to sporting events and plays, wine, vacation cabins, gift certificates to restaurants, spas, hair dressers, handmade items such as jewelry, scarves, food. If some parents would like to host a party we can arrange that too. Or if you prefer to donate cash we will supplement other donations to add to a package. We’ve gotten many donations from the community but the best come from the Parents.

This year we will again have Special Offerings and Super Silent auction items. More to come on this later.

Baskets, baskets, baskets: These were a big hit last year. Here are a few ideas but please be creative:

1. Martini Basket
2. Knitting Basket
3. Sports Movie Basket
4. Off to College Basket
5. Knitting Basket
6. Panther Basket
7. Margherita Basket

We are also selling advertising in our catalog. Prices are $25 for a business card size, $50 for a half page and $100 for a full page. Consider asking your dentist or orthodontist if they would support Saint Mary’s by advertising.

Questions about the auction, please click to email Joan Cannon.

Below is a write-up from last year's Crab Feed!

The 2007 Crab Feed and Silent Auction is Huge Successes!

Not only was the 2007 Crab Feed a sell-out with over 600 attendees, but it was a major financial success! The annual event, one of many held at area schools each winter, took place on Saturday, February 3, and as it has over some thirty years, brought together friends, alumni, parents, and school supporters for one of the most enjoyable community gatherings of the school year. Under the direction of event chair and senior parent Kathleen Kirke-Young and Parent Association chair Sharon Wicher, with terrific support from parents and school administration, the event netted additional funds for school projects and programs. Dozens of student servers kept the crab coming and the guests happy while raising tip money for Enrichment Week service trips.

Ticket sales and profits were bolstered by tremendous donations from area merchants. All the fresh crab – some of the best ever enjoyed at Saint Mary’s – was generously donated by freshman parents Robert Johnson and Joan Steele, owners of Monterey Fish Market on Hopkins Street. Sophomore parents Michael and Sylvie Sullivan donated the wine for the event, and Michael’s brother Steven Sullivan, owner of Berkeley’s Acme Bread, provided the delectable sourdough. Magnani Poultry and Monterey Market, always good neighbors to Saint Mary’s, provided roast chicken as a crab alternative and dozens of all-important extra parking spaces. Plentiful cups of Peet’s Coffee rounded out the evening, donated by the Peet’s El Cerrito store.

That same night, the hard work, hours of phone calls, and weeks of pounding the pavement paid off for the parent group’s Silent Auction Committee, which raised an amazing $50,000 for tuition aid during the Crab Feed. The school auditorium was beautifully bedecked with finery and festive gift baskets among the hundred-plus auction items gathered by the committee headed by school parent Joan Cannon (’08 and ’10) and alumni parent Terry Lee (’06).

Thank you, Saint Mary’s Parents!
