Planning Calendar for College Admission

Junior Year, 2011-2012

September

Resolve to study hard, challenge yourself, and make this the best year ever. In activities, focus on a few important ones and develop leadership.

Attend some college representative sessions, at and away from Saint Mary’s.

October

Take the PSAT

Attend some college representative sessions.

November

Do the best you can on your finals!

January

Attend college information night for juniors and their parent.

Create your Family Connection account and begin researching colleges

Consider registering for the March SAT and/or the February ACT, especially if spring sports will cause conflicts later in the semester

February

Make an appointment to discuss college plans with your college counselor. Attention will be given to your senior program courses, testing, summer plans, and additional admission testing for senior year

Take ACT, especially if spring sports will cause conflicts later in the semester

March

Take SAT Reasoning Test, especially if spring sports will cause conflicts later in the semester

Register for May or June SAT Reasoning and/or Subject Tests; April ACT

Watch the bulletin board, search on line, and check with college counseling office for summer

opportunities.

Enrichment Week, Spring vacation ‑ visit colleges, if possible

Request information from colleges.

Check admission requirements against the academic preparation you have had.

Check your senior course selections to insure you meet college admission course requirements and expectations.

April/May

Attend the East Bay College Connection College Fair if possible

Attend the Case Studies Workshop at Saint Mary’s

Keep your college counselor informed of your college considerations.

Take SAT Reasoning Test or Subject Tests (make sure you take both by summer if planning to apply to UC)

Take AP exams if appropriate­

Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center if you are an athlete who hopes to participate in Division I

or II college athletics.

Contact military academies for pre-candidate materials if you intend to apply in the fall

June, July, August

Visit Colleges.

Do some serious reading, volunteer, go to summer school, travel Narrow down your college choices.

Write to your Congressional Representatives if you are planning to apply to a military academy.

Begin working on your personal statement, brag sheet (profile of what you do outside of school.)
