Pollak & Devine Win TCAL Doubles Tournament, Clinch Spot in NCS Tournament

 

October 31, 2023—On a beautiful day in Vallejo, the Varsity Girls Tennis Team traveled to the Tri County Athletic League (TCAL) Championship Tournament with hopes of bringing home a league title, and a spot in the North Coast Section (NCS) Championship Tournament.

 

Senior, Claire Abboud, and Sophomore, Makena Lai, won their respective first round singles matches to qualify for the second round. However, both Abboud and Lai would lose their respective matches, bringing their individual seasons to an end.

 

The Panther duo of Seniors, Eva Roth and Amaya Beils, qualified for the Quarterfinal round of the TCAL Championships, but unfortunately were eliminated from the contest following their loss in that same round.

 

However, the extremely bright spot for the Panthers came from the superb duo of Senior, Hellen Pollak, and Freshman, Paula Devine, who won the TCAL Doubles Championship, not only bringing home some much valued hardware back to Peralta Park, but also clinching a spot in the NCS Doubles Championships. The NCS Championship Event will begin on Monday, November 13th. Congratulates to not only to Pollak and Devine for their championship victory, but also to all the Panthers players for a fantastic 2023-2024 season.

 

Panthers Celebrate Senior Day, Wrap Up Regular Season

 

October 26, 2023—On a cool Thursday afternoon at the Albany Tennis Courts, the Varsity Girls Tennis Team played host to their crosstown rival, the Albany High Cougars, in the final regular season match of the season. Since this was the final regular season match of the season, the Panthers celebrated Senior Day where they honored 6 of their senior players—Claire Abboud, Amaya Beils, Kiki Burlingham, Mia Christbaum, Helen Pollak, and Eva Roth—for their four years of hard work and dedication to the tennis program.

 

Even though the Panthers fell short in their match against the Albany Cougars, it was a great celebration overall recognizing these senior players.

 

With the regular season coming to a close, the Panthers will now prepare for the Tri-County Athletic League (TCAL) Championship Tournament. The tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, October 31st, and will be an all-day event. Good luck Panthers.

 

Panthers Top Gauchos in Second Meeting of The Season

 

October 17, 2023—In their second meeting of the regular season, the Varsity Girls’ Tennis Team and the El Cerrito High Gauchos squared off in yet another pivotal matchup for both teams. However, just like their first meeting early in the season, the Panthers would go on to beat their longtime league rival by the score of 5-2.

 

The Panthers got a strong performance from Freshmen standout, Paula Devine, who won her respective singles, as well as the impressive duo of Freshman, Hanna Zewdu, and Senior, Kiki Burlingham, who won their respective doubles match to help clinch the crucial league victory for the Panthers. Sophomore, Makena Lai, also won a pivotal singles match to also contribute to the Panther victory as well.

 

The Panthers will now go set their sights on their next important Tri County Athletic League (TCAL) matchup against the Richmond High Oilers. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18th, at 3:30pm at Richmond High School.

 

Panthers Blank Vallejo in Important TCAL Match

 

September 28, 2023—On a gorgeous day at the Albany Courts, the Varsity Girls Tennis team played host to their Tri-County Athletic League (TCAL) opponent, the Vallejo Warhawks, in a. critical league matchup at the midway point of the season.

Ultimately, the Panthers would go on to beat the Warhawks by the score of 7-0, improving their overall league record to 4-1, putting themselves in 2nd place in the league standings. The Panthers got major contributions from the young players, such as Freshmen Yenna Lee, Naomi Scheele, Hanna Zewdu, Mackenzie Miller, and Madeleine Sledjeski who performed outstanding in their respective matches. In addition to the outstanding performance of the Freshmen players, the strong doubles team of Mia Christbaum and Madeleine Nadel notched a key victory in their respective doubles match as well.

 

The Panthers will now have a few days off before they travel to Vallejo on Wednesday, October 4th, to take on the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins. The match is set for 3:30PM.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Panthers Top Jaguars 5-2

 

September 19, 2023—On a warm Tuesday afternoon at the Albany Courts, the Varsity Girls Tennis team defeated the Jesse Bethel High Jaguars by the score of 5-2, improving their Tri-County Athletic League (TCAL) record to 3-0.

 

The Panthers were led by their Senior leaders, Eva Roth and Amaya Beils, winning their doubles match in three sets. The Panthers also got a strong performance from Sophomore, Makena Lai, in her respective singles match where she was not only victorious, but also clinching the victory for her team.

 

The Panthers will now turn their attention to their next matchup against crosstown rival, the Albany High Cougars, which will be a pivotal league matchup for the team. The match is set for Thursday, September 21st, at 3:30pm at the Albany Courts.

 

Panthers Top Rival El Cerrito in TCAL Matchup

 

September 12, 2023—On a sunny afternoon on the campus of El Cerrito High School, the Varsity Girls Tennis Team took down their long-time Tri-County Athletic Rival (TCAL), the El Cerrito High Gauchos, by the score of 6-1.

 

The Panthers were led by the doubles team of Junior, Maddie Nadel, and Senior, Mia Christbaum, and the Freshmen duo of Yenna Lee and Hanna Zewdu, who were victorious in their respective matches against the double teams of El Cerrito. However, the match of the day was won by Freshman, Paula Devine, who won her singles match in three total sets.

 

The Panthers will now transition back to non-league play when they hit the road again to take on the Piedmont Highlanders. The match is scheduled for Thursday, September 14th, at 3:30PM.
