welcome everybody this is our presentation on Egypt and our enrichment week trip which will take place from March 5th through March 14th 2026 hello everyone um this is the agenda for our meeting today we're going to start with introductions from both Miss panolio and myself Mr Alvarez we will provide a trip overview tell you what you need to know as you plan uh give a little bit of information about the culture and customs of Egypt and last uh talk a little bit about Transportation food and lodging so as I mentioned I missed pan lilio I've been at St Mary's for 15 years now and the role of director of School counseling and academic support and I have traveled internationally for enrichment week for the past 3 years and they've been wonderful trips and I'm very much looking forward to this 1 being a wonderful trip too thank you Miss Palio and I am Mr Alvarez this is my fifth year at St Mary's I'm the director of ministry as well as well as religious studies teacher and um I have also been a international e-week uh travel shop around for the past 3 years um trips like France Italy and they've been such wonderful experiences so excited to do it again so here is a little bit of information about our trip um this is subject to change but these are the highlights that we will be uh visiting during our time in Egypt so we will spend the first couple days in Cairo will see the Pyramids of Giza um the Sphinx uh spend some time in Old Cairo and then we will depart for a 4-day Nile Cruise uh Adventure so you can check out some of the highlights of that Cruise um we will be stopping in looks are in oswan and uh we'll be checking out lots of temples and um along the way so you're welcome to pause this video and just take a glance at all of the different highlights from our trip we also have some bonus events that were very excited about we will have an opportunity to attend a Catholic mass in Cairo and additionally something that's become kind of a tradition on our International trips recently is trying identifying lalian schools in the locations that were visiting and Egypt has 6 um Lian schools and a few of them are located in Cairo and Mr Alvarez and I are making plans to visit 1 of those lyan schools while we're there and Hope why have an opportunity to interact with the students um get to know them and what their experiences are like at their lalian school absolutely and it's always such a beautiful experience for our students to connect with other fellow leelions around the world so that'll be so a special experience um some things that you need to know um the trip will cost between 4,800 to 5,200 um that fee includes flights lodging uh meals and please keep in mind that the final uh number will be dependent on how many students sign up for this trip so the more students we have the cheaper the price so please keep that in mind um we do partner with TSA tours and they provide a courier for every trip of theirs so we will have have a guided tour guide um we will have a professional tour guide for uh every step of our journey in Egypt um the official language in Egypt is Arabic um so as Miss peleo will mention in just a moment uh it's great you can learn at least some basic phrases in Arabic to prepare ourselves for the trip um the currency is the Egyptian pound and uh we will have opportunities to exchange uh upon arrival and then lastly we will be visiting in March um during the Spring um Egypt uh will get pretty hot during the day however at night it will it will be pretty chilly so please prepare for um all weather types so obviously in very brief presentation we're not going to be able to go into a lot of the details about the customs and culture in Egypt and part of that is is us living that experience while we were there um but it is a predominantly Muslim country and during the time that we will be there for enrichment week they will be near the tail end of their uh Ramadan celebration and it's just for us to number 1 be aware of that and number 2 just be mindful that the locals will be fasting from dawn until sunset so for us that just means that if we're eating lunch um just being very mindful of the fact that others around us may be fasting at that time and it may be seen disrespectful on our end so that's just something for us to be aware of um because they are refraining from eating at that time and although we're not expected to do the same we are certainly expected to bring our lasallian uh values and that of respect um is 1 of them um as Mr Alvarez mentioned a moment ago just showing some interest in in learning the phrases while we're there so being able to say thank you chakrin when you are interacting with somebody and uh mahaban saying hello to somebody along the way as well just we'll learn a few more as we prepare for our trip but those are a few things to keep in mind and then as far as dress code goes is Mr Alvarez said it will be warm during the day but we will be enforcing the St Mary's dress code and there are certainly going to be places that we are visiting that um will expect us to be covered um having our shoulders covered and having our knees covered again just out of a sign of respect um as I always like to say we are not bringing California to Egypt we are in Egypt to learn about their culture and so it's it's not um respectful for showing up in inappropriate clothing to some of the locations we'll be visiting so um in terms of just some final uh information um we will be departing from San Francisco from SFO and flying into Cairo um we will have hotel accommodations and centrally located areas in Cairo uh students will stay in double rooms uh there are 2 beds in every room breakfast and are included as students will be uh asked to buy their own lunch so um please bring some cash for that um and as mentioned earlier we are going to have a 4 night cruise on the Nile River so uh please uh keep that in mind you make your final decisions um we're going to have air conditioned motor coaches um and then lastly uh as Miss panolio mentioned to go um when we travel internationally we are traveling to a country um to learn about their culture and that includes the cuisine and the foods so um please be open to try new Foods um I'm sure it'll be great and it'll be a great opportunity for all of us to uh yeah try some new foods that we haven't tried before that's actually always 1 of the highlights for me is getting to try a different foods on these travel Adventures that we take students on and to share that experience with
