hi everybody hello welcome to our presentation um on our enrichment week trip which will take place next March 6th to 14th to Germany and the Czech Republic okay great um hi there um I'm Kathleen Tierney and I've had um lots of travel experience um with students uh for eweek um and also just love traveling um and uh on my own um I love uh the history um EX exploring a new cities in particular um and to open um my mind uh with New Perspectives um and it won't surprise you that I've been a teacher of religious studies uh world history um our philosophy epistemology program and um and literature um Miss Taney it's going to introduce uh herself um and then we'll tell you about uh the trip itinerary and all the great places we're going to go hi everyone I'm college counselor here at St Mary's this is my 10th year at this wonderful School and this will be my third international trip I was um able to go with Dr Imperial for the last 2 years to Spain and then the Balkans and I really enjoy um traveling with students and seeing them build a small little Community together um with other students that they may have never met um during the normal course of schools so it's a very exciting opportunity I'm going to take this now um our start us out with our travel itinerary we will be leaving San Francisco on Friday March 6th we will be saying goodbye to our families at the airport and we arrived in Berlin on Saturday March 7th we will be met at the airport with um by our full-time Courier who will be with us the entire trip um and they're usually very wonderful guides and super helpful as we travel we we will hit the ground running that day with a city tour which will include include the victory column Brandenburg gate um and the Alexander Platz we will then head back to our hotel I'm sure everybody will wiped out by then um for dinner and a good night's sleep so we're ready for more touring the next day on Sunday March 8th we will spend the day in Berlin we will be visiting the all the class Memorial the Museum of the story of Berlin and the Checkpoint Charlie Museum sometime during the day we will probably have some free time for lunch and exploring and shopping great so we um we actually move on from uh Berlin you can see we have an incredible opportunity um to um see and experience um places with extraordinary history um uh and so moving from Berlin um Dresden Dresden is an architectural gem um known for its Baroque architecture um it's also known for having um suffered widespread destruction during World War II um it has been painstakingly restored um it's absolutely uh gorgeous um and you can see a few of the things here um we'll be looking at the um get a guided tour of the Opera House um and also walking through the beautiful streets of Dresden um and you can see a porcelain mural if all of the Saxon rulers um throughout um throughout the history uh so Dresden um will stay another night in Dresden um and the next day we go to um the green Vault Museum which is not to be missed it is a treasure Trove of of Royal Arts um uh and jewels uh and medieval armor and in these spectacular rooms and which they were competing um with uh the the glamour of France um uh and King Louis the 14th um France and rain and then we'll go to clinics and Castle um on the river elbe which is beautiful um we will be leaving Dresden on the um Wednesday March 11th uh and we'll head to Prague and on the way to Prague um about 30 miles outside of the city uh we will stop it to raise in which is uh it was used as uh a concentration to Camp during World War II um it had been uh a massive Fortress that had been used um as a resort for Czech ility um in the Nazis had the Gestapo turn it into a ghetto um to gather Jews there and used it as a concentration camp so we'll look at the history um uh and pay a great deal of attention to um particularly um the propaganda that occurred there um we'll move on to Prague uh which is a beautiful city um and the first thing that we'll do when we arrived there is we'll go get a tour of Prague Castle uh which you can see here um and then we'll have um a wonderful dinner um and wake up again the next morning in Prague um in which we will have a a guided tour um of the old town uh which is um filled with um amazing um uh amazing architecture um finding streets um this clock tower is not to be missed um and we'll also get a a tour of the Jewish quarter um and learn more about the history of the many communities um and uh spirituality um that's so important in Prague um and then on our last uh our last full day is Friday March 13th um and we will go out to coutinho which is a next Nesco world heritage site a village right outside of Prague um and we will go um to um St barbers Cathedral and also to um what's called The Bone Church um which holds um the remains of um over 40,000 people um and these uh remarkable Arrangements that have been made um actually within the church with um with their it's it's a pretty spectacular site to go and then we come back uh to um Prague for a farewell folklore dinner um we're coming back on the Saturday the 14th is our big travel day we'll we'll right in the morning from Prague um and to the airport and arrived in San Francisco on the same day okay and probably hopefully you're like us and 1 of your favorite parts of traveling are exploring the cuisine of the country trees that we are visiting um I put some examples on here um of some sausages or brought worse there's the German schnitzel and some Czech um pastries and so we hope that um if you do decide to travel with with us you'll be open to exploring um the food um that we will encounter in the countries that we are visiting so what is included our trip um costs we've put listed on here will run between 5,000 and 5400 depending on the number of students who come and that includes your round-trip airfare 7 nights accommodations our students um usually um stay in double occupancy rooms we have breakfast and dinner daily um lunch is usually while we're out on the go so students generally bring spending money for their lunches we um will have a full-time Courier with us the entire time and we are transported on um very nice buses from place to place we will have our entrance fees to all our museums and attractions covered as well as tips and all taxes um so next steps come see us at the lunchtime Fair which is on Thursday September 25th make sure to attend 1 of the mandatory meetings um during independent study on October 1st or 2nd um get your application um and the student parent contract complete those applications and contracts which are due for travel courses by October 7th um we'll work with you to make sure that you have um passports and we'll collect copies of those um and then you'll be attending travel group meetings with us as we prepare um to travel in March we look forward to traveling with you we hope that
