Kevin Flemer ('13)

Head Coach Kevin Flemer will enter his 5th season and his first year as the head varsity baseball coach for Saint Mary’s after previously serving as the pitching coach for the varsity program in his first four seasons dating back to the spring of 2019.

In his first four seasons as the pitching coach, Flemer helped the Panthers achieve an overall record of 63-35, coupled with 3 trips to the North Coast Section Playoffs, a North Coast Section DIV Title and a trip to the NorCal Regional Playoffs in 2022, and a Tri-County Athletic League Regular Season Title in 2023.

Flemer has also had the luxury of coaching some of the best pitchers in the program including 2021 Panther graduate; Ryan Shimabakuru (College of Marin); the 2022 duo of Noah Zirkle (Fresno State) and EJ McGrew (Willamette University); and the 2023 trio of Eli Fogelman (Sonoma State University), Quinn Connell (College of Marin), and Nico Laub-Sabater (Pomona Pitzer).

Flemer, a native of El Cerrito, CA, and 2013 alum of Saint Mary’s College High School, was a two-sport athlete in both the football and baseball programs. In football, he excelled as the team’s starting quarterback where he won First-Team All-League in 2012. In baseball, Flemer was a 3x All-League Pitcher of the Year (2011-2013), a First-Team All-State Utility Player (2012) according to ESPNHS, a 2x league champion (2012, 2013), and an NCS Champion in 2013.

After completing his high school degree at Saint Mary’s, Flemer signed his National Letter of Intent to pitch at Oregon State University from 2013-2015 before transferring to play at the University of California from 2016-2018.

Jeff Ransom

Coach Jeff Ransom enters his 6^th season with the Saint Mary’s baseball program, serving as the catchers and infielding coach for the Junior Varsity team. Prior to his arrival to Saint Mary’s, Ransom first started coaching in 2013 with the Berkeley High Travel Baseball Team and would do so until 2018 before becoming heavily involved with the Saint Mary’s Summer & Fall Travel Baseball Program and, ultimately, with the Saint Mary’s program in 2019. As head JV coach of the 2024 season, Ransome led the team to a 12-5 overall record.

In the early stages of his life, Ransom grew up in Berkeley, CA and attended Berkeley High School from 1975-1978 where he starred in not only baseball, but also in football as the school’s starting quarterback for three seasons. On the gridiron, Ransom received 1^st Team All-League honors and set the school record for passing yards that still stands to this day. On the baseball field, Ransom excelled as utility player for the Yellowjackets, being the team’s top pitcher, catcher, and hitter where he won Co-MVP and 1^st Team All-League honors his junior year and followed it up with another 1^st Team All-League selection his senior year.

After his stellar career at Berkeley High, Ransom attended the College of Alameda to play baseball for two semesters before being selected in the 5^th Round of the MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants in 1978 where he excelled in the Giants minor league organization. With his strong play in the Giants minor league system, Ransome would finally make his Major League Debut in 1981 with the Giants. After a successful three-year stint with the Giants, Ransom would play his last game with the club in the Fall of 1984. He would then finish the rest of his MLB career with the Atlanta Braves organization (1985), Detroit Tigers organization (1987), and the LA Dodgers organization (1988). Following the end of his MLB career, Ransome played overseas in the Italian Professional League in Nettuno, Italy (1989-1992).

Coach Ransom looks forward to the upcoming season working with the JV program that consists of young and talented players.
