Track & Field Coaching Staff
The coaching staff at Saint Mary’s is a veteran staff that has worked and coached together for over 20 years.
Jeff Rogers (Head Coach; Jumps Coach)

Coach Rogers joined the Saint Mary’s staff in 1997 and in his time at Saint Mary’s his athletes have enjoyed considerable success. High School All-American honors have been awarded to Jerriod Mack (U.C. Berkeley), Solomon Welch (Stanford), Ed Wright (CAL), Sanjay Kettels (CAL), Kali Hatcher (Columbia) and Malcolm Clemons (Florida)… while State Championships have been earned by Ebon Glenn (Arizona State), Ed Wright (CAL), Ron Smith (San Diego State), Sanjay Kettels (CAL), Malcolm Clemons (Florida) and Kira Gant Hatcher in 2025. Other NCS champions and state medalists have included high jumpers Spring Harris (USC), Riana Shaw, and Maurice Spikes (UC Davis) and long jumper/triple jumpers Asokah Muhammad (Arizona State), Quiana Plump (CAL), Aziza Baker (CAL), and Ma’Ane Mosley (CAL). In all, Saint Mary’s jumpers have won an incredible 26 North Coast Section championships since 1997. Coach Rogers was himself a jumper.. having competed in the high jump at U.C. Berkeley, where he earned All-American honors and is still the school’s high-jump record-holder. He currently teaches Social Studies at Saint Mary’s.
Denis Mohun (Distances)
Coach Mohun has been a track and cross-country coach for the past 34 years.

. Formerly the head track and cross-country coach at Sacred Heart Cathedral in S.F., Coach Mohun came to St. Mary’s in 1998 and in his time he has coached some the finest distance runners in the North Coast Section. In 2002, the Saint Mary’s Women’s Distance Medley Team was top ranked in California and one of the 5 best in the United States. Former Panthers Bridget Duffy (CAL), Sean Geraghty (U.C. Irvine), Rudy Vasquez (U.C. Irvine), Gabi Rios-Sotelo (CAL), Matt Duffy (Brown), Alice Baker (USF), Dan Maxwell (Claremont McKenna), Alex Choy (Saint Mary’s College), Duncan Calvert (U.C. Santa Barbara), Jovani Barajas (Occidental), and Owen Woo (Pomona Pitzer) have all trained under Coach Mohun before embarking on their collegiate careers . Mr. Mohun competed in cross-country and track at Chico State University and has been a vice principal, athletic director, and is currently a math teacher at Saint Mary’s.
Terry Burke (Varsity Sprints; Hurdles) - Coach Terry Burke is a veteran track coach who began his coaching career in 1982 at Redwood High School (Larkspur). While at Redwood, his teams compiled a 238-49

dual meet record while winning 13 Marin County Athletic League titles and 1 North Coast Section Championship. In 1994, Coach Burke moved to The College of Marin, first as an assistant before being named the head coach in 1995. While at The College of Marin, he coached two athletes to back-to-back State Junior College championships in the decathlon while also working with several former NCAA All-Americans as well as Irish national record-holder and two time Olympian Tom McGuirk (400H). Then, in 2004 Coach Burke acted as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, CAL - working primarily with the female sprinters and hurdlers before being named the head coach at San Francisco State University in 2005. During this 8 seasons as SFSU, he coached 15 NCAA Division II national qualifiers… 7 of whom earned All-American honors. Coach Burke is a graduate of the Branson School (Ross) where he held numerous school records in both the sprint and hurdle events. After finishing his undergraduate degree in Political Science, Coach Burke earned his teaching credential from San Francisco State. He currently resides in Mill Valley.
Craig Sutphin (JV Boys Head Coach) - Coach Sutphin is entering his 7th year as the JV Boys Head Coach. He is primarily tasked with working with newer and junior varsity sprinters but very often can be found instructing athletes on the finer points of block starts, weight training or plyometric exercises. In his time at Saint Mary's, he has worked with

most of the top sprinters and jumpers as they progressed through the program. A former 6'8" high jumper and basketball player in college and at powerhouse Mater Dei (83') high school in Southern California, coach Sutphin is not new to competitive athletics. In his time at Saint Mary's, coach Sutphin has served as an assistant Varsity Basketball coach as well as an assistant coach for the Track & Field team. A current teacher and head of the Epistemology Department at Saint Mary's, Coach Sutphin is a fitness enthusiast who enjoys training alongside his JV Team as well as running the streets of Alameda where he currently lives.
Gabe Arias-Sheridan (Boys Distance)
The Panthers feel fortunate and are proud to welcome Coach Gabe Arias-Sheridan to their 2026 coaching staff. Coach Gabe comes to Saint Mary’s after a storied

running career at St. Joseph’s – Alameda and Saint Mary’s College. As a prep, Coach Gabe remains one of the most accomplished runners in recent North Coast Section history. He led the Pilots to 3 North Coast Section Championships and 2 consecutive California State team championships while individually capturing individual state medals 4 times! Coach Gabe is still amongst the fastest runners to ever race on the famed Point Pinole cross country course. As a collegiate, Coach Gabe made Saint Mary’s College program history in 2016 when he became the first Gael runner to ever qualify for the NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships. That same year he was named ALL West Coast Conference (WCC) 1st team after earlier setting the Saint Mary’s school record for 8k. In track, Coach Gabe was also highly accomplished, setting the Gaels school record for 10,000 meters (29:33) and 5000 meters (14:27). His 1500 meter personal best (3:52) is also one of the fastest ever run by a Saint Mary’s runner.
Trestin George (Throws)

Coach Trestin George enters his first season as a member of the Saint Mary’s track & field coaching staff but Coach George is no stranger to Panther track & field. An Oakland native and a graduate of Saint Mary’s in 2002, Coach George was a standout athlete in both football and track. His accomplishments as an All-NCS running back are well documented, but Coach George was also an outstanding track man who still ranks among the best long and triple jumpers in school history. As a sprinter running the 1st leg on the 4 x 100 relay, his team still ranks as the 2nd fastest squad in school history! After a successful football career at San Jose State, Coach George played in the NFL (Jacksonville Jaguars) CFL (Canadian Football League) and Arena Football League. After retiring from football, Coach George shifted his focus to making a difference in his community. Over the past fourteen years he has coached football at Saint Mary’s, Encinal, and Moreau Catholic. He is currently the head football coach and assistant Dean of Students here at Saint Mary’s.
