All 9th grade applicants to Saint Mary’s College High School are required to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT).

Register for the HSPT

*The deadline to register is January 7, 2025.

If a student is requesting extended time on the HSPT, please see our HSPT page for more information.

Saint Mary’s partners with Classroom Matters to offer an HSPT prep course. This workshop offers students an opportunity to learn more about the HSPT, and familiarize themselves with the format and focus of the test.

Step 5: Provide Recommendations

Saint Mary's requires three recommendations: one from your current math teacher, english teacher, and principal or counselor.

To simplify the work of the eighth grade teachers who are asked to complete the recommendation forms, Saint Mary’s will also accept a copy of a completed recommendation form from another Catholic or private school. Our online application also has a new feature called "Common Checklist Items," which allows you to share recommendations between all East Bay Catholic High Schools. To learn more click here.

Recommendations are to be requested and sent through your online application parent portal. Please note: you CANNOT submit requests until your application is completed.

We recommend that the forms be given to your student's current school at least four weeks before the February 4 2025 deadline.
