Boys Soccer Earns #15 Seed, Set for Fourth Meeting with Richmond in NCS Opener

Monday, February 16, 2026 - The Saint Mary’s Boys Soccer team is headed to the Division II North Coast Section playoffs after a strong postseason push that saw them reach the TCAL Championship. The Panthers fell just short in a 1-0 loss to Albany, with the game decided in the final minute.
Now earning the #15 seed in the Division II North Coast Section Boys Soccer Championships, Saint Mary’s will travel to face a familiar opponent in Richmond High School.
This matchup will mark the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. During the regular season, the Panthers and Oilers battled to a 2-2 draw and later a 0-0 tie. They met again in the TCAL Semifinals, where Saint Mary’s showed resilience after trailing 0-2 at halftime. The Panthers responded with a four-goal second half to earn a 4-2 victory and advance to the championship match.
Friday’s contest is expected to bring similar elements — rainy conditions, a road environment, and another tightly contested battle between two teams that know each other well.
Offensively, the Panthers are led by senior Timothy Hamp, who has tallied 17 goals this season. Arlo Roeske and Emmett Bates have provided additional firepower with 12 and 11 goals respectively, giving Saint Mary’s a balanced and dangerous attack heading into postseason play.
If the Panthers advance, they will face the winner of Newark Memorial and Mt. Diablo in the next round.
With familiarity, resilience, and scoring power on their side, Saint Mary’s looks to continue its postseason run.

Thursday, February 12, 2026 - The Saint Mary’s Panthers came up just short in the championship match tonight at Albany High School, falling 1-0 in a hard-fought battle against Albany.
The two teams were no strangers to close contests. During the regular season, the Panthers and Albany played to a draw in their first meeting. In the second matchup, Saint Mary’s held a 1-0 lead until the 67th minute before Albany found two late goals to secure a narrow 2-1 victory. Every meeting between the two programs this season has been decided by the slimmest of margins.
Tonight was no different.
With a disciplined defensive effort and a strong game plan, the Panthers controlled key stretches of the match and looked poised to push the game into overtime. However, late in regulation, Albany capitalized on a corner kick opportunity, converting the set piece for the lone goal of the night to secure the 1-0 championship win.
Despite the result, Saint Mary’s closes the regular campaign with an impressive 9-4-5 record, highlighted by a signature road victory at Richmond and multiple tightly contested matches against top competition.
The Panthers now turn their attention to the upcoming North Coast Section Boys Soccer Championship bracket release on Sunday. With their body of work this season, Saint Mary’s could find itself placed in the Division II bracket as they prepare for postseason play.
Stay tuned as the Panthers await their next opportunity to compete.

Wednesday, January 7, 20225 - Saint Mary’s entered today’s matchup against cross-town rival Albany High School determined to put together a strong performance on their home field. The opening minutes saw Albany play the role of aggressor, generating multiple shots on goal, though none found the back of the net.
