Thursday, October 21, 2025 - Saint Mary’s continues its strong early-season momentum, extending its winning streak to three straight matches with victories over Vallejo and Hercules.
The Panthers handled Hercules twice by identical 6–1 scores, with the singles lineup once again setting the tone. Hannah Zewdu led the charge, delivering gritty performances in both matchups. In the first meeting, Zewdu battled through a tight contest, ultimately prevailing 9–11, 10–7, 10–6. She followed it up with a composed second win, taking the match in two sets, 10–3 and 11–9.
In doubles play, the pairing of Kameron Levy and Mirai Yasuda split their results across the two Hercules matches—dropping the first contest 7–10, 9–11 before bouncing back in the rematch with a confident 10–3, 10–8 victory.
Riding a wave of consistency and resilience, the Panthers now look ahead to their next challenge: a rematch with Jesse Bethel, who handed Saint Mary’s an early-season loss. With renewed momentum, the Panthers will aim to flip the script in their upcoming meeting.

Thursday, October 9, 2025 - The Saint Mary’s girls tennis team faced a challenging week, dropping three matches, but showed notable improvement and determination in each contest.
The week began with a close 3-4 loss to El Cerrito, a significant step forward from their 0-7 season-opening defeat. Senior Makena Lai, junior Hannah Zewdu, and junior Yenna Lee all secured singles victories, highlighting the team’s potential and resilience.
Next up, the Panthers fell 2-5 to Salesian, with points coming from Makena Lai and Hannah Zewdu. Despite the loss, Saint Mary’s competed hard in every match.
The week concluded against Albany, where the Panthers faced a tough squad and earned their lone point from Makena Lai, continuing to demonstrate perseverance on the court.
The team looks to build on these efforts as they work toward stronger results in the coming matches.

Thursday, September 11, 2025 - Saint Mary’s Girls’ Tennis earned their first victory of the season this week, defeating SPSV in commanding fashion, 7-0.
After early-season matchups against El Cerrito (0-7), Salesian (3-4), and Albany (0-7), the Panthers came into Thursday’s match determined to turn things around. They did just that, showing focus and consistency across both singles and doubles play.
In singles competition, Lai (6-1, 6-0), Zewdu (6-1, 6-1), Lee (6-4, 6-2), and Rice (6-2, 6-2) each posted straight-set wins. On the doubles side, the Panthers were just as dominant, with Yasuda/Scheele (7-5, 6-1), Masquelier/Tan (6-1, 6-4), and Jacques/Levy (6-1, 6-0) all earning victories.
The 7-0 sweep marks a strong step forward for the team as they continue to grow throughout the season. Saint Mary’s will host Vallejo on Tuesday at the Albany Courts.

Girls Tennis Fights Hard in Road Match Against Jesse Bethel
Tuesday, September 23,2025 - The Saint Mary’s Panthers traveled to Vallejo to face Jesse Bethel High School, earning one point in a competitive outing.
Senior Makena Lai put the Panthers on the board early, winning her singles match in dominant fashion (6-0, 6-3). Both Naomi Scheele and Alan Rice battled into three sets before falling just short. The Panthers were forced to forfeit the fourth singles spot due to roster limitations.
In doubles play, Levy/Yasuda, Masquelier/Tan, and Agerbaek/Jacques competed hard. The duo of Masquelier/Tan pushed their opponents to three sets, while the other doubles teams fell in straight sets.
The Panthers will return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Pinole Valley High School to take on the Spartans in another TCAL matchup.

Thursday, September 2, 2025 - The Saint Mary’s Panthers battled hard against El Cerrito but came up just short in a closely contested match.
The Panthers secured three points in singles play, earning victories in three of their four singles matches. El Cerrito responded with a strong showing of their own, capturing one singles win and sweeping doubles to collect three additional points. That effort gave El Cerrito the overall team victory.
Despite the tough loss, the Panthers showed grit and determination throughout the match and continue to demonstrate steady progress early in the season.
Saint Mary’s will look to bounce back on Thursday as they travel to face Salesian.
