Mary Orozco

 

Coach Mary Orozco begins her 3rd consecutive year at Saint Mary’s College High School, and second full season as Head Coach of the Varsity Girls Soccer Program. Coach Orozco, a native of Richmond, California, played soccer at Richmond High School while attending Middle College High School in San Pablo. Following her graduation, Mary was accepted into UC Berkeley where she is currently in her 5th year double majoring in Cognitive Science & Data Science. In addition to her academics, Orozco continues to play the sport of soccer for the UC Berkeley Club Team, and the semi-professional team known as Town FC where she competes with former NCAA Division I and World Cup players.

 

In addition to coaching the Panthers, Orozco has coached within the local club circuit where she contributed to the Lil’ Spurs & Tots soccer. At the age of 17, she assumed a leadership of her first ever recreational team, and then was eventually given the opportunity to her inaugural competitive soccer team for Spurs FC and would go on to coach various age groups with Spurs FC from ages U6-U17. Currently, at Eastshore Alliance FC, Orozco serves as the head coach for one of the teams.

 

Last year, Orozco helped the Panthers earn both the Tri County Athletic League (TCAL) Regular Season and Postseason Tournament Championship, as well as a North Coast Section (NCS) Quarterfinal Round trip. In her 1st year coaching for the Varsity Girls Soccer team, Orozco led the Panthers to a Tri County Athletic League (TCAL) and to the 2023 NCS Quarterfinal Round. During that season, Orozco coached a few vital players the exhibited exceptional commitment and leadership. For example, Dylan Hedgspeth (’23) was a versatile athlete for the Panthers soccer program, who displayed leadership and the ability to excel both athletically and academically. In addition to coaching Hedgspeth, Orozco also coached former Panther standout, Allena Collins (’23), who won Defensive MVP for TCAL and went to play collegiately at University of Saint Mary in Kansas.

 

Outside of the soccer pitch, Orozco has plans to attend graduate school to discuss Data Ethics. She also enjoys spending time with her 7-year-old dog, Joey.

 

Rigo Orozco

 

Assistant Coach, Rigo Orozco, enters his second season at Saint Mary’s College High School as part of the Varsity Girl’s Soccer program under head coach, Mary Orozco. Orozco, a native of the East Bay in Richmond, California, grew up in Berkeley where he excelled as both a player and a coach.

 

As a teenager, Orozco played for the Realm Charter High School in Berkeley, California, where he played on both the JV & Varsity boys soccer programs. Following his high school career, Orozco went on to San Francisco State where he currently is pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science (B.S.) Degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Athletic Coaching with hopes of graduating this upcoming spring.

 

As a coach, Orozco has six years of club and high school experience. He currently serves as a coach for Eastshore Alliance (2021-present), and has served as both a head and assistant coach for the boys soccer program at Castro Valley High School (2021-2023). Last year, in his first year as an assistant for the Varsity Girl’s Soccer program at Saint Mary’s, Orozco helped the program win both a Tri County Athletic League (TCAL) regular season and postseason tournament championship, as well as earning a trip to the North Coast Section (NCS) Division IV Quarterfinal Round.

 

In his spare time, Orozco has a passion for traveling to and hiking within national state parks. He also enjoys watching various movies and at least attends the movie theater at least once a month when a new movie is showing.
