Marshall Collins
Head Coach, Marshall Collins, begins his first year leading the Varsity Boys Basketball Program bringing with him an impressive coaching background and resume. Coach Collins has been coaching for 20 years at the high school, collegiate, and AAU circuit. For example, he has coached at Livermore High School on two different occasions; has coached local colleges consisting of Los Medanos, Chabot, College of Marin, College of Alameda, and Contra Costa; and has coached the prestigious AAU team, The Oakland Soldiers.
Given his coaching experience, Collins has coached very successful players who have gone to play at the collegiate level and the NBA. Some of these players who have played collegiately include Darrion Trammell (San Diego State), Mason Forbes & Mikey Lewis (Saint Mary’s College, Moraga), Jackson Shelstad (Oregon), Jason Roche (Richmond), Jordan Pope (Oregon State), Chance McMillian (Texas A&M). In regards to the NBA level, Collins has coached Jalen Green (Houston Rockets), Josh Green (Charlotte Hornets), Scotty Pippen Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies), James Akinjo (Milwaukee Bucks), and Boogie Ellis (Sacramento Kings).
Some of his coaching accolades include a Nike Jam peach Tournament Championship and a Nike EYBL Coach of the Year Honor.
Collins grew up in Oakland, California, and attended Oakland Tech High School where he excelled in the basketball and baseball programs. Following his high school career, Collins continued his basketball career at Long Beach State before transferring to Long Beach City College, and then ultimately finishing his career at Park University.
When he is away from the hardwood, a passion of Collins is that he enjoys music and spending time with his family and loved ones, such as his fiancé, Tenesha, and his children—Chris, Riley, Serenity, and Ty. He currently resides in Antioch, California.
Assistant Coach, Antonio Scott, enters his first year in the Varsity Boys Basketball program despite having 20 years of coaching in the Bay Area, bringing an insurmountable of knowledge of the game to Saint Mary's College High School. In the high school circuit, Scott coached at both El Cerrito High School, where he served as both an assistant coach (1999-2006) and head coach (2004-2006), and Berkeley High School as an assistant coach (2007-2009, 2014-2015). In fact, while he was an assistant at El Cerrito, Scott played a major role on the coaching staff leading the Gauchos to a North Coast Section (NCS) Title in 2003.
In the AAU circuit, Scott has worked with multiple programs in various roles, such as Greg Foster Sports (2014-2016, Player Development & Scouting), All in One Sports Management (2017-2019, Scouting & Community Philanthropy), Red Devils Grass Roots (2012-Present, Director), and Evolve Sports Group (2019-Current, Vice President).
Throughout his coaching career, Scott has coached multiple players that went to play both collegiately and professionally, such as current NBA guard Malcom Brogdon (Portland Trailblazers), Jonathan Williams (Overseas Professional League), Franco Harris (Boise State University), Daymon Warren (George Washington University), and Mathew Simpkins (University of Memphis).
Prior to his coaching career, Scott attended Berkeley High School as a quality basketball player himself, and then went on to play at Chico State following his graduation from high school. In fact, as high school player, Scott was nominated as a candidate for the McDonald's All-American Team in 1991. He also holds the 3-point record at Berkeley High School as well.
Scott, who is also a native of Berkeley, California, enjoys traveling, boating, and golf. He is also a father of two daughters, and a grandfather for both his grandsons.
Frosh/Soph Head Basketball Coach, Robert Vasquez, returns to Saint Mary's College High School for his second season at the helm of the Frosh/Soph program after finishing his first season with a 13-8 record in the 2023-2024 season. Vasquez, a Bay Area native of Pinole, California, is a graduate of Albany High School (Class of 2016) where he starred as a two-sport athlete in football and basketball. Following his graduation he attended Contra Costa College where he earned his degree in Engineering in 2021.
After attending Contra Costa College, Vasquez began his head coaching career at his alma mater, Albany High School, where he was the head coach of the Boys Junior Varsity program during the 2020-2021 where he led his team to a 1st place finish in the Burl Tournament that same season.
When Vasquez is away from the basketball court, he works at Trader Joe's in Pinole and has been there for the past 5 years after previous working at the Trader Joe's location in El Cerrito for 4 years. Some of his passions include working on automobiles, art, fishing, and spending time with his fiancé and pit & boxer mix dog.
