Panthers Win Thriller vs. De Anza

January 20, 2023—On a clear night on Hagler Court, the Varsity Boys Basketball team took on the De Anza High Dons in a critical league matchup. The game itself was a back-and-forth affair between the two teams as they would exchange leads on various occasions. The game also consisted of a free throw shooting contest as both teams combined for a total of 59 fouls. However, despite not playing a smooth game, the Panthers would find a way to pull out the victory, winning the game by the final score of 77-74.

Despite all the foul calls, the Panthers came up with key defensive stops and turnovers in the latter stages of the game to give the Panthers the advantage and, ultimately, a big win in league play. Juniors Jacob Hubbard and Tyler Soto finished the game with 20 points and 14 points respectively, and Freshman CJ Baltrip recorded his first ever double-double in his young Saint Mary's career with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The Panthers will look to build off this victory in their next home matchup against the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24th. Tip-off is set for 7pm.
