Lozano Duran’s & Alatorre’s Late Heroics Help Panthers Stave Off Elimination; Advance to 2nd Round of NCS

Wednesday, February 15thIn the First Round of the NCS Playoffs, the Varsity Girls Soccer team played host to the San Marin Mustangs of Novato, California, at Brady Park in a game that featured two very closely matched teams. Similar to their last game in the TCAL Championship against Pinole Valley, the Panthers found themselves in a 1-0 hole as the Mustangs took the early lead in the beginning stages of the game.

In the second half of the contest, the Mustangs’ 1-0 lead held firm into the latter stages of the second half. With time ticking down on the Panthers’ season, Junior, Veronica Lozano Duran, executed a well-placed free kick to tie the game at 1-1 with 7 minutes left to play, and even forcing the game into extra time.

In overtime, the Panthers were awarded a corner kick where Sophomore, Tallulah Alatorre, continued her goal scoring streak as her corner kick attempt would find the back of the net, punching the Panthers’ ticket into the Second Round of NCS.

The Panthers will travel to San Francisco to take on the Urban High Blues in the Second Round. The game is scheduled for Saturday, February 18th, at 2pm at the Beach Chalet Fields.

Alatorre & Colley Lift Panthers to 2nd Straight TCAL Title

February 11, 2023—In a late Saturday morning showdown for the TCAL Tournament Title at Brady Park, the Panthers squared off against the Pinole Valley High Spartans for the third time this season. In the first two meetings between the two, the road team was the winner of those games. However, on this occasion, it was the home team that would come out on top as the Panthers would defeat the Pinole Valley Spartans by the score of 4-1.

However, in the early stages of the game, it was the Spartans that were controlling the game and would even score the first goal of the game to give themselves the early 1-0 lead until the Panthers would

finally get in a rhythm and score four unanswered goals thanks to Sophomore sensation, Tallulah Alatorre, and Junior stud, Madison Colley, who would score two goals each to give the Panthers the TCAL Tournament Championship for the second straight season.

The Panthers will now shift their focus to the NCS Playoffs, which start next week. They will find out this Sunday what their seed is and who and when they will be playing.

Panthers Cap Off Regular Season with 6-1 Win

February 2, 2023—With the regular season coming to an end, and the TCAL playoffs looming large next week, the Panthers ended their regular season with a dominant 6-1 victory over TCAL league foe, the Hercules High Titans. The Panthers displayed an offensive onslaught throughout the contest with three goals in each of the halves, and even scoring the first 5 goals of the game.

The Panthers started the scoring with goals by Juniors, Veronica Lozano Doran and Madison Colley, and Sophomore, Jordan Kully, to give the Panthers the 3-0 edge at halftime. The Panthers would then keep the pedal to the metal to start the second half with goals by Freshman, Aniya Heredia, which was her first goal of her varsity career, and Madison Colley, her second of the game. The Panthers would then score one more goal by Sophomore, Charlotte Ballard, to cap off the 6-goal affair.

The Panthers will now turn their attention to the TCAL Playoffs which begin next week. The Panthers have yet to find out their opponent, but they will host the first round of league playoffs at Brady Park on Wednesday, February 8th, at 3:30PM.

Alatorre, Panthers Shine on Senior Day

January 24, 2023—On a chilly yet sunny day at Brady Park, the Varsity Girl’s Soccer team celebrated Senior Day prior to their matchup against their cross-town rival, the Albany High Cougars. The Panthers honored five Seniors prior to the game—Alena Collins, Camille Donnelly, Camila Gutierrez, Dylan Hedgspeth, and Gina Sorbi—for their dedication and commitment to the soccer program.

However, even though it was a day to celebrate the Seniors, it was the non-Seniors that propelled the Panthers to victory. Junior Madison Colley continued her hot streak as she opened the scoring late in the first half, giving the Panthers the 1-0 lead into halftime.

In second half, it was the Talullah Alatorre show as the Sophomore would score the next two Panthers goals to seal the Panthers’ 3-0 victory. Alatorre’s goals were sensational as both goals were shot from 25-30 yards out that found the back of the net.

The Panthers will look to build on their dominate win over Albany as they take on the Richmond High Oilers on Thursday, January 26th. The game is scheduled for a 6pm.

Panthers Win Close Match Over Pinole Valley

January 19, 2023—After a very close contest in their previous matchup against the El Cerrito Gauchos that ended in a 0-0 tie earlier this week, the Panthers found themselves in another very tight TCAL affair against the Pinole Valley High Spartans. However, the Panthers would score the one and only goal of the contest, giving the Panthers the 1-0 victory.

The Panthers got their goal on an impressive effort by Junior Madison Colley at the 74th minute of the second half, proving to be the game winner of the match. This is also the second straight match for the Panthers where their defense was able to keep their opponent off the scoreboard.

The Panthers will look to build off their big win as they will host their cross-town rival, the Albany High Cougars, in another big TCAL match. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, January 24th, at 3:30pm at Brady Park.

Panthers And Gauchos Battle to 0-0 Tie

January 17, 2023—After a long layoff due to harsh weather and constant rain, the Panthers returned to action in 2023 where they took on TCAL rival, the El Cerrito Gauchos, who the Panthers defeated earlier in the season in a close contest by the score of 1-0.

However, even though the match was tightly contested, neither team could find the back of the net as the game would finish in a 0-0 tie. Even though there was no scoring, there were strong displays of defense by the Panthers to keep the Gauchos off the board.

However, during the final minutes of stoppage time in the second half, the Panthers had a glorious chance to find the back of the net following a misplay by the Gaucho goalkeeper, but the Panthers couldn’t cash in to break the tie and, ultimately, give them the win.

The Panthers will look to get their offense going in their next game when they take on the Alhambra High Bulldogs on Saturday, January 21st in Martinez, CA. The game is scheduled for 12pm.

Panthers Suffer First Defeat of the Season vs. Pinole Valley

December 8, 2022—One a cold and relatively wet afternoon at Brady Field, the Varsity Girls’ Soccer team suffered its first defeat of their young season at the hands of TCAL foe, the Pinole Valley Spartans, by the score of 2-1. Early in the game, the Panthers were controlling the game as they would score the first goal of the game on a nice goal by Senior Gina Sorbi.

However, the Panthers tried to hang on to their 1-0 lead late in the game, but the Spartans would not go away as they would score two goals in the last 15 minutes of the game to seal the victory.

The Panthers will look to bounce back next week as they take on their cross-town rival, the Albany High Cougars, on Tuesday, December 13th, at Albany Middle School. Game is set to start at 6pm.

Panthers Earn Back-to-Back Shutouts, Beat Gauchos 1-0

December 6, 2022—After opening the season with a decisive victory against the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins last Friday, the Panthers found themselves in a much closer match. However, the Panthers would find a way to earn the 1-0 victory over their long-time league rival, the El Cerrito High Gauchos, earning back-to-back shutouts to start their young season.

The Panthers will look to continue their winning ways as they will host the Pinole Valley High Spartans in another TCAL matchup on Thursday, December 8th, at 3:30pm.

Saint Mary’s Dominant in Doshi’s Return to Peralta Park

December 2, 2022—In Doshi’s return to Peralta Park as head coach of the Varsity Girls Soccer Program, the Panthers were dominant in their season opening victory as they defeated fellow Tri-County Athletic League (TCAL) foe, the St. Patrick-St. Vincent Bruins, by the score of 5-0.

The Panthers demonstrated a fast-paced style of play in the season opener, and it would show in the very first half of the match as the Panthers scored 3 of the 5 goals in that frame. The Panthers would also have five different players score for them as well. Freshman standout, Arely Marrero, notched her first high school career goal to give the Panthers an early 1-0 lead. Marrero’s goal would then be followed up by goals from Juniors Veronica Lozano Duran and Madison Colley. The final two goals for the Panthers to put a stamp on the victory would come from Junior, Sophia Santucci, who would score her first ever varsity goal, and then by Senior, Gina Sorbi.

The Panthers will look to build off their impressive victory as they will take on crosstown league foe, the El Cerrito Gauchos, in another league match to start the season.
