Alumni News
This Monday 9/30 we had our 40th annual Charity Golf Tournament at Richmond Golf Club. In honor of coach Phil Doran, who coached golf and was an alum of Saint Mary’s. Despite the 90 degree heat with no wind, we had a full field turnout to support Saint Mary’s and play some wonderful golf. Multiple teams scored in the 50s as the competition was fierce. We had many familiar faces and many new faces come out in support of the Saint Mary’s community. All proceeds go directly to Tuition Assistance. A big thank you to everyone who made it out and enjoyed the entire day. Can’t wait to do it again next year!
On Saturday, September 21st we celebrated the class of 1999’s 25 year Reunion. The weekend started with drinks Friday night in Downtown Oakland, where over 25 alums showed up to enjoy an evening with old classmates.
Saturday began with a home football game as the Panthers hosted Arroyo at 12 o’clock. Although the result didn’t end up in the Panthers’ favor, the class of 99 showed out with their “classic gear” and had fun at the game. The festivities then moved down to De la Salle Plaza and the Shea Student Life Center for food, drinks and scrolling through their old yearbooks! We ended the day with a tour of campus, seeing the “newest” buildings, Frates Memorial Hall and the Chapel. One of the highlights of the tour was sitting in Ms. McManus' classroom, who taught many of them, and leaving her wonderful notes. The day was a blast and the turnout was great! Thank you members of the Class of 1999 for being a part of the day!
ACES Football Camp hosted by Lorenzo Alexander '01
Early in June, Lorenzo Alexander '01, 16 year NFL Legend hosted his first camp at Saint Mary's through his ACES foundation. In the morning session we hosted 6th, 7th and 8th graders from schools around the area. In the afternoon our own Panthers got to spend some time with Lorenzo and his team on the field and in the classroom. It was a day the kids will never forget as they received lessons on not just football but becoming young men in their community. Lorenzo and his team, Paki Gordan '99, Charles (House) Ellis '01, Courtney Brown '02, Trestin George '02, and Ben Schrider '15 shared their experiences playing football here at Saint Mary's and beyond in college and at the professional level. All in all the day was a great experience for all of the kids involved and we can't wait to have them back next year!!
