Boy's Dominate TCAL Championship Tournament; NCS Championships Next

Vallejo, CA - In the swirling winds at Blue Rock Springs Golf Course in Vallejo, the Saint Mary’s Boy's Golf Team advanced to the NCS Division 2 Golf Championships by dominating the TCAL Championship Tournament. Playing the full 18 holes for the first time this season, the Panthers were led by Marlon Jones’ 78 and Neal Lavelle’s 79.  As a team, the regular season champions out shot all teams by 27 strokes, posting an impressively low team score of 322. 

 

All-League honors were earned to Marlon Jones and Neal Lavelle, as well as freshman Max Canny.  With the win, the team moves on to next Monday's NCS Championship Tournament, to be played at Valley of the Moon Golf Club in Santa Rosa.

 

Golfers Beat Pinole Valley, Stay Unbeaten. Now 12-0!

Berkeley, CA - Today on the bumpy aerated greens at Tilden Park our Panthers, exhausted from their SAT assessment squeaked out a victory in their closest match of the season- upending the Spartans of Pinole Valley 159 to 175. Saint Mary’s was led by captain Marlon Jones’ even par score 35.  The win runs their season record to a perfect 12-0.  With just one more win, this 2022 Panthers squad will have the single best regular season record in school history!  The Panthers next match is Tuesday, April 26th against Jesse Bethel on their home Tilden Golf course.
Panthers Way Too Much For Dons

Berkeley, CA - On Monday, in the first of back to back matches against De Anza, Saint Mary's defeated the Dons by a whopping score of 153 to 283. Playing on the comfortable confines of their home Tilden course, the Panthers were led by freshman Max Canny’s 1-under 34 and the stellar contribution of sophomore Sebbi Frankenberg’s 43.  The win moves the boy's team to 8–0 on the season and firmly atop the TCAL standings.
 
Next up for the Panthers is a Thursday rematch against the same Dons, this time at Franklin Canyon.  First tee is at 3:30.
Red Hot Panthers Scorch Titans; Still Undefeated

Berkeley, CA -  The Saint Mary’s golf team continued their hot run as they moved to 6-0 in league with a 153-238 match victory against Hercules High School on Monday.  Playing on their home Tilden course, the Panthers totaled their lowest team score of the year as juniors Marlon Jones and Neil Lavelle shot 35 and 38 respectively. Freshman Max Canny chimed in with a 39 while sophomore Silas Naing netted a 41.  
 
"Our team is really starting to come together," said a smiling coach Petersen after the match.  "We're getting solid play up and down the line up from both the older and younger players that makes us more than just a one man team.  We're all really enjoying the season thus far."
 
Next up for the Panthers is another TCAL match against host Vallejo on Tuesday, March 22nd at Blue Rock Springs Golf Club.  First tee is at 3:30.
Golfers Route Yet Another Opponent; Now 5-0

Vallejo, CA - The Saint Mary's Boy's Golf Team dominated yet another opponent on Tuesday, this time defeating the Jesse Bethel Jaguars 167 to 239.  The Panthers were once again led by junior Marlon Jones, who shot 1-over par 37 on the Blue Rock Springs Golf Club.  Freshman Max Canny’s 38 was just one shot back of Marlon.  The Panthers moved to 5-0 in league matches in 2022.
Golf Team Continues to Shine, Now 2-0

Berkeley, CA -  The Saint Mary’s Boy's Golf Team played their second league match on Tuesday, this time against the Gauchos of El Cerrito at Berkeley Country Club and, like their first outing, the match wasn't much of a match.  Led by junior Neal Lavelle’s 39 and  backed up by fellow junior Marlon Jones’ 40, the Panthers "trounced" the Gauchos, 167 to 251, according to head coach Joe Petersen. 
 
"That's two matches in a row now where our guys executed well, played smart, and the results followed.  We're starting to get excited about the possibilities of this season and what we can accomplish," said the optimistic first year head coach. 
 
Next up for the Panthers is another home match on Thursday, March 3rd, also at Berkeley Country Club against the Salesian Pride.  First tee is at 3:30.
Golfers Dominate 2022 Season Opener

Richmond, CA - Playing above the San Pablo Bay on a beautiful, sunny, Friday afternoon, the Panthers boy’s golf team defeated Pinole Valley at Richmond Country Club 156 to 197.  Neal Lavelle (’23) medaled the match with a scorching 1-under par 34 after rolling in an 18 foot birdie on the last hole to best his Spartan opponent by one stroke. The Panthers also got impressively strong rounds from Marlon Jones (’23) and Max Canny (’25), who shot 37 and 39 respectively. 
 
Next up for the Panthers is a TCAL showdown against the El Cerrito Gauchos on Tuesday, March 1st at Berkeley Country Club.  First tee is at 3:30 pm.
