Coaching Staff (2023-2024)

Coach Adam Chaffey enters his second year at Saint Mary’s serving as the head coach for the Girl’s Rugby Team, as well as serving as one of our school’s Religious Studies and Philosophy teachers. Coach Chaffey was originally born in Leeton, Australia, where his passion and appreciation for the sport of Rugby not only originated, but also grew as he played for the local town’s rugby team, the Leeton Phantoms, and played for the Select Australian team, The Presidents 15.

After his playing career, Chaffey got into coaching and has done so for six years—2 years for the Alameda Men’s Rugby, consisting of high school-aged players, and 4 years at Carondelet High School in Concord, CA. At Carondelet High, Chaffey led the Cougars to two Runner-Up finishes in the NorCal 7s (2019) and NorCal 10s (2022), as well as a championship title at the NorCal 7s in 2021. Under his tenure, Chaffey had two of his players at Carondelet receive two of his athletes receive scholarships to NCAA Division I schools, which was the first time ever in Carondelet’s history.

Chaffey currently lives in Concord, CA and is married with 3 children, 2 dogs, a cat, and 3 chickens. Outside of rugby, his main hobbies consist of music as he enjoys playing the guitar, drums, and classical percussion.
